Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, a Defence PSU based in Kolkata, has recently inked a significant export deal valued at $54 million with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG, a Germany-based shipping company. The agreement, signed on Saturday, outlines the construction and delivery of four versatile cargo vessels.
Vessel Specifications
These multi-purpose vessels are scheduled for completion within 33 months, with provisions for constructing an additional four ships in the future. Each vessel will measure 120 meters in length and 17 meters in width, capable of transporting up to 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo. They will feature a single cargo hold to accommodate bulk, general, and project cargoes, with containers carried on hatch covers. Additionally, the ships have been specially designed to transport large windmill blades on deck, as highlighted by GRSE.
Diversification and Recent Projects
GRSE has been actively diversifying its portfolio beyond warship manufacturing. In recent times, the company has successfully delivered an offshore patrol vessel to Mauritius, a fast patrol vessel to Seychelles, and a passenger-cum-cargo ferry to Guyana. Currently, GRSE is engaged in constructing six patrol boats and a dredger for Bangladesh.
Signing Ceremony
The agreement was formalized by Commodore Shantanu Bose (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE, and Carsten Thomas Rehder, Managing Director of the German firm. The signing ceremony was attended by Commodore P R Hari (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE.
