BIOGRAPHY OF DR. MARIYA MAHMOUD BUNKURE
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure is a medical doctor and the current commissioner for higher education in Kano State, Nigeria. She was born in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State in 1976. She attended Bunkure Gari Primary School, GGASS T/ Wadan Dankadai for her junior secondary education and then Girls Science College Garko. She graduated in 1995. Subsequently, she went to College for Remedial Studies where she did her IJMB in 1996. In 1997, she got admission to study Medicine at the Bayero University Kano. Later, she furthered her education to become a consultant in family medicine at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Bunkure is a highly accomplished medical professional. She is a consultant in family medicine and has over 20 years of experience in the field. She is also a member of the National Postgraduate Medical College and the West African College of Physicians. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Bunkure is also an active public servant. She was appointed as the commissioner for higher education in Kano State in 2020. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the state’s tertiary education system.
