Gawuna was born on August 12, 1968, in Gawuna, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria. He attended the Government Secondary School, Nassarawa, and then proceeded to the Bayero University, Kano, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1990. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Career
Gawuna began his career as a civil servant in the Kano State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. He later moved to the private sector, where he worked for a number of companies.
In 2003, Gawuna was appointed Commissioner for Agriculture by Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State. He served in this position until 2007.
